So… I love to create for the horror genre. Absolutely no holds barred. For this, Sam and I talked a lot about how the woman moved, what it sounded like and how that could be portrayed in the music and sound.
That she suffered a skin disorder in which connective tissue becomes hard and brittle like bone, that her footsteps should sound wet and that her voice should be muffled and unfocused – that it came from all around.
We ended up getting some chicken carcasses and sticking my Neuman TLM 103 right up in their butts. Then proceeded to record them stretch, rip, and break. And there you go – wet, craklin’ scary movement sounds!
I still have some chicken schmutz in the grill of my mic.
