Notes

Composed for the Roku Original documentary A Radical Act: Renee Montgomery, the score follows the transformation of Renee Montgomery from WNBA champion to activist, entrepreneur, and team owner. The music balances the energy and momentum of professional sport with the deeper themes of leadership, social responsibility, and personal conviction that define Montgomery's story.

Drawing from contemporary orchestral writing, electronics, percussion, and modern production techniques, the score moves between moments of determination, reflection, and triumph. Rather than functioning solely as sports music, the soundtrack explores the emotional and cultural impact of an athlete choosing to leverage her platform beyond the game itself.

The resulting score serves as both narrative engine and emotional framework, supporting a story about courage, reinvention, and the power of individual action to create broader social change.

Premiere

One of the most rewarding aspects of this project came after the film's release. Themes from the score became the foundation for a national remix competition developed in partnership with EarSketch and Georgia Tech, inviting students across the United States to reinterpret and transform the music through their own creative voices. The initiative resulted in hundreds of student submissions and extended the life of the score beyond the film itself, turning the music into an educational tool for composition, production, and creative expression. The project became a reminder that a film score can continue evolving long after the final credits, creating new opportunities for engagement, learning, and collaboration.
